On the Zschopau Bridge stands the monument "Zschap mei Geeß" (Zschopau my Jesus), erected in 1932 to commemorate the hardships of the carters of that time. Due to the frequent damage caused by ice to earlier wooden bridges, this stone bridge was built between 1811 and 1815, inspired by Dresden's Augustus Bridge. Barely completed in its shell, it had to endure its first endurance test in 1813. On its way to the Battle of Leipzig, the main body of the Austrian army, including the entire artillery and the associated ammunition wagons (a total of approximately 1,400 pieces of harness), crossed the bridge. https://www.schloss-wildeck.de/historischer-stadtrundgang

The Bodemer family's spinning history actually began with a hosiery factory. In 1802, a bleaching works was built in Zschopau in the Ore Mountains, directly on the Zschopau River. In 1818, Johann J. Bodemer installed the first looms there and built a spinning mill a year later. Ten years later, he divided his company among his sons, with his third son, Georg Bodemer, taking over the Zschopau spinning mill. He expanded the business and specialized in cotton spinning. The family was expropriated without compensation in 1952, and the cotton spinning mill was converted into public property, thus creating the "VEB Baumwollspinnerei 'Zschopautal' Zschopau," part of the main plant in Flöha. By 1990, 1,100 employees, mostly women, worked there, supplying the textile processing industry with the finest cotton yarn. After reunification, the business was shut down, and the spindles remained there forever. Until the late 1990s, the building housed a furniture store, but this, too, was unsuccessful.
