Due to the devastating town fire of 1693, Marbach is one of the few towns in the state with a virtually complete ensemble of 18th-century buildings. Since 1983, the entire complex has been a listed building. The weekly market on Marktstraße invites you to stroll and shop on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More information here. Half-timbered houses, alleyways, towers, and fountains characterize the historic old town. It is one of the oldest rural towns in Württemberg, boasting a city wall and medieval fortifications.

Old stone benches, often called "Gruh" (wine baskets), can be found in the vineyards as a reminder of this time. Wine baskets, usually carried on the head, were placed on the higher benches, while the lower benches next to them provided a place to rest. Often, the latest local gossip was exchanged during such breaks.
