The Salzhaff is almost completely separated from the Baltic Sea by the Wustrow and Boiensdorfer Werder peninsulas. Due to the low water depth, the Salzhaff is a popular spot for surfers and sailors. What is special about the Salzhaff are the species-rich salt marshes, which offer a protected habitat for numerous animals and plants.
