The Roman Catholic Church of St. Katharina is the parish church of Niederlauer in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld. Niederlauer had a small church on its current site even before the Reformation. It was supplied by the Maria Bildhausen monastery. In 1559, the village became Evangelical Lutheran, but in 1583, after the Bishopric of Würzburg took possession, it was re-Catholicized. In 1601, Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn elevated Niederlauer to a parish. In 1612, the same Prince-Bishop had the church tower built on the old church. The current church was built in 1888 in the neo-Gothic style. The church was renovated in 1975. The vaulted choir with a five-eighths end is flanked to the south by the church tower with a pointed helmet and four corner turrets. The sound windows of the church tower are pointed arches. An octagonal stair tower stands next to the church tower. The flat-roofed nave has four window axes. The windows of the choir and nave are pointed arches with tracery. The rear wall of the nave is pierced by a rose window above the gallery. (Wikipedia)

Chapel in the Green Au Not far from the Church of St. Katharina in Niederlauer, a small chapel has been located in the "Green Au" recreation area since 1978. The little church is located on a site steeped in history, because at the end of the Second World War a German soldier was seriously wounded here. He died a short time later. The chapel in the Green Au is a popular destination for hikers and people seeking relaxation and blessings. The chapel, which was built by the Niederlauer couple Gerhard and Brunhilde Suckfüll out of gratitude after a vow, is dedicated to the Mother of God. That is why rosary devotions are held there in May and October. (Info Niederlauer community)

Beautiful view of the Saale. Here the power of water is once again evident...
