There's a sign on the door saying "Restaurant for hotel guests only," but we still asked if we, as hikers, could get a coffee. A pleasant surprise: Very friendly staff, good coffee, and delicious, freshly baked waffles we could enjoy on the terrace. And our dog wasn't forgotten either, and he got fresh water from a clean, polished bowl!

The location of the church and the Michael's patronage suggest a pre-Christian place of worship on the site of the church (Schug). The Wahlhausen pilgrimage chapel is located on a hilltop of the same name near Steffeln. I have already seen this chapel from various towns in Hillesheimer and Gerolsteiner Land because it is in a very exposed location. That's why I went up today to enjoy the view from up here. I have to say it was worth it! The air wasn't clear today, but I'll definitely come here again if the visibility is good. Today I could see Hillesheim, Gönnersdorf and, of course, Steffeln very well.

This church in Steffeln was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings.
