There's a lot of chatter when you sit down here for a break.

From the hiking trail behind the dike, you have a view of the inland lake. However, if you want to really enjoy the view, climb one of the many wooden staircases on the dunes.

Designated a historical monument in 1987, the tower now marks the boundaries of the Bundeswehr firing ranges Todendorf and Putlos. Those who climb the 179 steps can even say "I do" in the wedding chamber – weddings for up to ten people are possible.

The beach path behind the dike is 400 meters long. It offers an unobstructed view of the lighthouse and the buffalo meadows.

From Beach to Dune Wide beaches, beach ridges, and dunes characterize the coastline here. Sea squill, stonecrop, and sea kale grow on the pebbly beaches. The white dunes support marram grass and sea rye, while further inland, the older grey dunes develop, featuring willowherb, thrift, and pansies. They provide space for shrubs, trees, and the non-native rugosa rose.

There are many boardwalks connecting the dike path to the beach. This path runs for a long stretch along the reed bed.

The tourist information office is located to the right of the volunteer fire department building. Feel free to come in. And if it's closed, there are leaflets outside with information about Behrensdorf, Hohwacht, and the dancing cranes.

The coypu feels at home along the river – a neozoan from South America that, with a bit of luck, can be observed swimming or nibbling along the banks. Visually, it looks somewhere between a beaver and a rat, but it's considerably more relaxed.
