One of the most famous Franconian monuments is the Segnitz Cemetery Gate. It was donated and built by Hans Kesenbrod as part of the cemetery's construction in 1607. That year, 90 people died of the plague, leaving the burial ground around the local church insufficient. The arcaded walkway in the cemetery contains valuable epitaphs and frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries. The so-called "Keerl or Vinegar Monument" commemorates the wine merchant Valentin Keerl and the once flourishing wine trade and local vinegar industry.
