The forests surrounding the Frechen quartz works were created through recultivation. A wide variety of tree species thrive in the sandy soils around the mining site. Since 2022, several hiking trails have been marked in the forest, including the Sandman Trail.

Welcome to the moon! The quartz works in Frechen are closely linked to the city's history. Since 1884, exceptionally pure quartz sand has been mined here for various uses, including glass production. The rugged terrain has its own unique charm and is somewhat reminiscent of the lunar landscape.
