Saint Gotthard has been venerated in Vorst for almost 900 years. At that time, Archbishop Friedrich I of Cologne donated a relic of the saint to the parish - Vorst developed into a place of pilgrimage. A chapel was built next to the old parish church, in which a figure of Gotthard was placed. In earlier years, countless pilgrims traveled to Vorst by train to worship the saint. The new church also received a chapel in 1896, in whose window the figure of the saint can now be seen. Outside of the festival week, the statue stands next to the altar in the church. Saint Gotthard is venerated in Vorst primarily for protection against diseases in humans and animals. The Gotthard Chapel on Gelles Kirchweg dates from 1722 (Gelles Kirchweg led from Gelleshof in Kehn to the church in Vorst). Gotthard, i.e. Saint Gotthard, has been venerated in Vorst since 1131.
