The Pink Whale is a cultural ship on the Danube in Bratislava, moored firmly on the bank near the Old Town. Located below Bratislava Castle, it serves as a venue for concerts, parties, and creative events. With its open-deck structure, the ship offers a unique atmosphere—urban, alternative, and right on the water. Especially in the evenings, the Pink Whale becomes a popular meeting place for the local cultural scene and guests from all over the world. From the deck, you can enjoy a sweeping view of the Danube, the Petržalka embankment, and Bratislava's historic center.

Slovak National Uprising Bridge. It is an asymmetric cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 303 meters. Its steel structure hangs from cables anchored in two piers on the Petržalka side. The total length of the Danube Bridge is 430.8 meters, its width is 21 meters, and its weight is 7,537 tons.

A 22.7-meter-high observation tower located right next to a listening post used by the National Security Agency (NSA)—something like it seems to be unique to Austria. To be more precise, the tower, built in 2001, stands on the Königswarte near Hainburg, Austria's easternmost mountain—right on the border with Slovakia. The wooden tower offers a wonderful view that extends far beyond the former Iron Curtain and includes the Königswarte listening post operated by the Austrian Federal Army.

Beautiful but steep hiking trail from the mountain to the lookout tower. It gets more difficult to get to the Pottenburg ruins. Going back uphill on other paths is almost only possible with a machete. Nevertheless, both destinations are worth the effort. A cell phone with good navigation is definitely very helpful, even though the routes and distances are not really that big.

The border between the CSSR and Austria was part of the "Iron Curtain" until 1989. And as with the inner-German border, the aim here was to prevent border breaches of any kind. The border was fortified accordingly. You can see a massive barrier, anti-tank barriers and a bunker system at this point.

At least there was a way to get over the fence, but a gate would be the better solution.
