Grafenegg Castle is an architectural gem of Romantic historicism with roots in the 15th century. Surrounded by a 32-hectare castle park and known for the international Grafenegg Music Festival, the ensemble combines culture, history, and nature. For cyclists, the castle offers a charming stopover on a tour through the Weinviertel region—with the opportunity to stroll, relax, or attend a concert.

Beautiful lookout point with a rest area and a view over the Wagram and Grafenegg Castle 😊 ... Well, not visible in the photos in the wet, cold and foggy January 😄 ... even more beautiful photos will follow in spring/summer 2025 👍

Grafenegg Castle The castle is rich in historical evidence and its origins date back to 1435. From then on, it underwent several metamorphoses over the centuries until it finally became the Tudor-style castle that we see today. Count Breuner-Eckevoirt, a lover of architecture, had the Renaissance castle rebuilt in the 19th century in the style of romantic historicism. Today, the castle is owned by the Metternich-Sándor family, who have restored the castle with the support of the state of Lower Austria. Castle Chapel, Grafenegg Castle (dedicated to the Holy Trinity) During the Thirty Years' War, these were used to set up cannons, but the castle was captured and temporarily occupied by Swedish troops in 1645. During the construction work, a chapel was completed in the north wing in 1633, which was dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Text / Source: wikipedia.org https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Grafenegg

Cloud Tower, Grafenegg Castle (Part 2) In contrast to a concert hall, which is almost isolated from the outside, external influences such as birdsong from the castle park can be heard at open-air concerts. At the same time, the Cloud Tower uses tried-and-tested acoustic principles to create the perfect sound: the design directs the sound in a bundled manner to the amphitheater-like grandstand, thereby achieving high sound quality while minimizing noise. In addition to the design, the renowned acoustician Karlheinz Müller has used modern technologies to offer optimal sound enjoyment even in the back rows. The stage area under the Cloud Tower itself also serves as an instrument to capture the sound, bundle it and pass it on to the audience. In addition, the seats are arranged in such a way that they offer an optimal view, which gives the place a pleasant intimacy. The location in the middle of nature - often at sunset during the evening concerts - creates an exceptionally atmospheric setting for the concerts. Surrounded by the expansive landscape and a picturesque sky, the grass areas on both sides of the stands offer the special experience of enjoying a concert sitting on a picnic blanket. Cloud Tower, Grafenegg Castle The completion of the Cloud Tower in 2007 marked the beginning of the Grafenegg Festival. The award-winning open-air stage, a mix of concrete, steel and glass, has one of the best acoustics in Europe and offers 1,700 seats for visitors as well as a further 400 lawn spaces on the adjacent hills. The architectural complex rises to become a monument in the extensive garden landscape and, with its spatial openings, creates an exciting connection between nature and the building. Depending on which direction you approach from, the shape and appearance change and merge seamlessly into the existing landscape. The paths in the park are designed in such a way that new perspectives constantly emerge as you walk through them.
