Fishing has a centuries-long tradition in Marchtrenk and was still practiced professionally until the beginning of the last century. Fishing was a profitable sideline for farmers, especially in Kappern. The “Untere Traun” fishing area, which the fishing chapel was built, follows on from this tradition.
