The Kofel was already revered by the Celts. The grotto trail below the Kofel is full of stone carvings, small caves with statues of Mary, and angel figures everywhere – in the moss, in the branches, in the rock crevices. A magical place.

The Köblhaus and Dedlerhaus are located next to each other and are beautiful examples of ventilation painting* in the Ammergau Alps. Rochus Dedler, the composer of the original Passion music, was born in the Dedlerhaus in 1779. "Ventilation" in the context of painting* refers to creating an illusion of airiness, openness, and space in a painting. It is a technique used to suggest the presence of fresh air and space in the depicted environment, making the painting appear more vibrant and realistic. It is not about physically ventilating the space, but about using painting techniques to create a sense of depth and movement.

The valley lies in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in the unincorporated Ettaler Forst and part of the Ettal municipality, south of the Klammspitz ridge and north of the Kreuzspitz and Kramer groups. The largest tributary valley is the Elmautal, between the Kreuzspitz and Kramer groups. The Scheinbergspitz, part of the Hochplatten-Tegelberg group, forms the valley's visual boundary in the west. The Graswangtal is approximately 15 km long and runs predominantly in a west-east direction. It begins at the German-Austrian border near the Ammer Saddle at the confluence of the Fischbach and Neualmbach streams to form the Linder at an altitude of approximately 1,080 m and ends in the Ettal Weidmoos at an altitude of 840 m. The Linder flows through the entire Graswangtal before turning north as the Ammer in the Weidmoos. State Road 2060 also runs through the entire valley. The valley includes the Ettal districts of Linderhof with Linderhof Castle, Graswang, Dickelschweig and Rahm.
