Here on the Fife Coastal Path, just on the outskirts of the charming fishing village of Pittenweem, you have gorgeous coastal views south with distant views of the Isle of May. The coastal walking around this part of Fife is super nice. I hope you get the chance to go to Pittenweem itself to visit the village and harbour too. Scotland is very much noted for its mountains, but its coastal scenery comes in a very close second.

The construction of Ravenscraig Castle by the mason Henry Merlion and the master carpenter Friar Andres Lesouris was ordered by King James II (reigned 1437–1460) as a home for his wife, Mary of Guelders. The castle is considered one of the first - perhaps the very first - in Scotland to be built to withstand cannon fire and provide for artillery defence. The king was involved with the planning but, ironically, was killed in a tragic accident with a loaded cannon at the Siege of Roxburgh Castle near Floors Castle in the Scottish Borders.

The first port has been said to date as far back as 1450. This helped the export of coal and salt with the town's trading partner, the Low Countries.

This place of worship in St Andrews, with its high tower that clearly towers over the surrounding area, would make you think of a church rather than a chapel. It was not dedicated to one of the many people we venerate as blessed or saints and ask for their heavenly intercession with God. Rather, it was dedicated to the incarnate Son of God, Jesus Christ, the Redeemer and Savior ("Saint Salvator").
