渓谷は美しいですが、製粉所の遺跡はほとんど見えません。完全に草に覆われています。

Flink overgroeid pad. Wel een leuke uitdaging om te lopen. Ik raad aan om hem van beneden naar boven te lopen met goede bergwandelschoenen. 1 minpuntje: er lag veel plastic afval in de beek. Zou niet moeten kunnen in een beschermd natuurgebied.

Sturdy shoes and long trousers are strongly recommended: In May, the vegetation was sometimes so dense that the path was rarely clearly visible.

Nice forest and hiking area. Unfortunately we didn't have much time, otherwise we would have explored it more...

Lovely little town with some great bars and resto's

The necropolis of Fourni is located on this plateau in front of Mount Juchtas. It is not freely accessible. The necropolis was once the cemetery of the Minoan predecessor city of Archanes. Rich grave goods were found here, some of which can be found in the museum in Archanes and some in Heraklion. The tombs were used for a very long time - from about 2400 BC. to 1200 BC Chr. Different architectural styles can also be seen here. G. Sakellarakis undertook the first excavations in 1964.

In this stone hut one finds refuge from the approaching rain.

This ascent and descent to the Fourni necropolis is very easy to walk thanks to its stepped stone path. There is a second path, but it is steeper and very gravelly. The path was already the main access to the necropolis in Minoan times and is partly continued in the necropolis. Accordingly, the dead were probably brought along here for burial.
