This is a great trail with fantastic views of Moosehead Lake. The roots make this a good technical trail. There was a storm in 2023 and this little park lost over 800 trees, but the trail has since been cleaned up.

The Basin Ponds are a set of two alpine lakes situated within the spectacular Baxter State Park in Maine. They are surrounded by beautiful spruce, fir and some deciduous shrubs and the water quality is very good so you're welcome to bring along your bathing suits and take a dip.

Abol Pond is a pretty pond in Baxter State Park. The Abol Pond Trail passes by here, and eventually winds around the base of Abol Mountain, past ponds and dense forest. If you want a less lengthy hike, you can also head west along the Abol Stream Trail and connect it to the AT for an easier hike to other surrounding ponds with great views of Katahdin.

There is a well-rated campground and a beautiful network of well maintained trails around Daicey Pond. Here on the north side you are very close to the northern terminus of the AT.

The trails around this section of the AT are nontechnical packed dirt and pine needles. There are numerous streams and scenic ponds to explore.

The campground was established back in 1939 and has 25 sites, including lean-tos, tent sites, and group campsites. You have access to a couple different trails up to Katahdin as well as a network of flat, nontechnical, but highly scenic trails around the ponds at the base of the watershed.

Beautiful trails, well marked, wonderful forests with an Indian summer look and pond landscapes. Two absolutely breathtaking viewpoints, highly recommended.
