Of all the lakes you'll pass while riding Snowy Range Road, Lake Marie is the prettiest and most accessible from the road. This sort of scenery is exactly the reason for riding this road.

Just below the 12,013-foot Medicine Bow Peak, Lookout Lake is a beautiful mountain lake. The trail to the lake is really popular, but the lake is big enough to offer some solitude even when crowds are present. There are a number of other alpine lakes in the area if you are wanted to extend your hike a bit.

Although this challenging singletrack doesn't get a lot of traffic (probably because you need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle with high ground clearance to reach the trailhead), it's a fun one. You'll grind out some elevation gain on the way up, then gain it all back on the way down again. If you want a longer ride, this trail also links in with the Gap Lakes Trail and beyond.

Rawlins used to be a regional rail transportation hub, serving northern Colorado and interior Wyoming. That makes this 19th century Union Pacific Railroad train depot — now the centerpiece of a park — an important part of local history.

Washington Park is a pleasant public space on the west side of Rawlins. The park also has a playground, restrooms, grills, and space to play horseshoes and tennis.

This museum holds more than 30,000 artifacts, and admission is free. Its focus is on local history at the county level, and one of the most interesting exhibits is "The Garage," where you'll find fascinating examples of past technology including snowshoes for horses, a sheep wagon, and a vintage racing car.
