Visitors are welcome to enjoy the grounds during summer hours, except for when the stables are closed on Sundays. For safety, only riders and staff may access the barn. Guests can greet horses in the outdoor stalls and enjoy the picnic area.

The Paw Paw Tunnel is an engineering marvel along the C&O Canal, built to avoid constructing six miles of canal along the river. Work began in 1836, but labor disputes, funding issues, and the challenges of tunneling through shale delayed completion for 14 years. Finally opening in 1850, the 3,118-foot tunnel has faced ongoing rockslides throughout its history. Today, visitors can explore the tunnel with a flashlight to spot historical features like weep holes and rub rails. Section C of the Billy Goat Trail is located in Potomac, Maryland, and is a popular hiking route known for its scenic river views and relatively easier terrain. Stretching 1.6 miles, this section is less challenging than Section A and features wooded paths, some rock outcroppings, and a small waterfall, making it ideal for hikers looking to enjoy nature without the technical demands of the other sections. Pets are allowed on this trail. The Billy Goat Trail is divided into three sections: A, B, and C, each with distinct characteristics. While Section A is known for its technical difficulty and Section B is currently closed due to flood damage (as of summer, 2024), Section C offers a more accessible hike. Parking for Section C is available at the Carderock recreation area.

College Park Airport, founded in 1909 as the military demonstration area for the Wright Brothers, is the world's oldest continually operating airport. From here, there is only a fence and a few lights between you and the beginning of the runway to this small airport. If you are lucky, you will catch a plane flying over your head as you walk by.

The Schaeffer Farm Trail System is part of Seneca Creek State Park and offers miles of diverse terrain. The trails are constructed in a series of loops so visitors can tailor their outing to suit their ability and time constraints. Be aware that these are multi-use trails and you're likely to encounter mountain bikers on the trail.
