Must do if the weather is right. Mid fall to early spring is the best time. Can take as little as 5 hours if you are reasonably fit (like 9 minute mile).

Definitely one of the most beautiful views in the area!

This spot offers fantastic views of the park and the Texas Hill Country as you approach the summit. The flat rock provides plenty of room to stop, enjoy the scenery and take some incredible photos.

Climb Enchanted Rock, a massive pink granite dome with rewarding Hill Country views at the top. This ancient rock formation has attracted visitors for thousands of years, and the surrounding scenery, rock formations, and legends add to its mystical charm. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area also features ancient man-made holes where seeds were ground into flour and hundreds of archaeological sites.

The Covert family donated this land to Travis County in 1939, making it a cherished public land. Very popular among the locals, the park offers a short but scenic hike with limestone steps leading to the summit. Enjoy the fresh air and diverse vegetation along the way.

Standing at 775 feet above sea level, Mount Bonnell offers panoramic vistas of Austin, Lake Austin, and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. The limestone slopes are home to a variety of native Texas plants, including Ashe juniper, plateau live oak, mountain laurel, and persimmon trees. This is a very popular spot, even the 1991 cult classic film "Slacker" features a scene filmed at the summit of Mount Bonnell.

South Rim is a section of trail that offers wide-reaching views of the Chisos Basin and of the Chihuahuan Desert. It is thought of as some of the best scenery in Big Bend National Park. Sections of the trail are closed during peregrine falcon nesting season. Updates on this can be found on Big Bend's park website. South Rim Trail is a challenging climb with over 2,000 feet in elevation gain from its beginning at an intersection with Laguna Meadow Trail and Colima Trail. This trail is only accessed through Laguna Meadow or Boot Canyon (via Pinnacles) trails from the north or the East Rim Trail to the east.

Emory Peak is the highest point in Big Bend National Park at 7,796 feet. The summit provides panoramic views of the rocky peaks in Chisos Basin. The last quarter mile of the climb to this mountain top is steep and rocky. The last 25 feet to the summit requires scrambling along a rock face. There is very little shade along most of this trail and Texas's summer temps can be brutal. Make sure to pack appropriately.
