Castle ruins with a great view

Beautiful stretch of road where you can take a break.

Originally a Celtic refuge, then the Romans arrived, and in the 12th century, a castle was built. It came into the possession of the Electorate of the Palatinate around 1300 and was then intended as a refuge for the ruler and his entourage from Heidelberg in case of emergency. The people of Dilsberger were granted town-like rights and, in return, were obliged to provide accommodations in case of emergency. With the dissolution of the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1803, the castle came into the possession of the state of Baden. In 1822, the castle was approved for demolition. Nice place as an ideal starting point for tours or for a break in between. In summer there is a kiosk directly on the Neckarlauer with seating and a great view of the river and the jetty. Alternatively, you can also go for ice cream at the “Hemp Market”. Beautiful, obvious destinations: Dilsberg, Neckarsteinach, Hirschhorn (with castle), Eberbach or Heidelberg (castle, Philosophenweg, old town).

The restaurant has apparently been closed since October 2022 after the tenant retired and there is no successor. There is only a sign on the gate saying 'Company Holidays'. - A visit is not possible as it is privately owned. The only thing left is the view of the castle from the vineyards, you don't have to drive directly there at the moment.
