After years without any visible progress, a successful exhibition facility was built in 2015 and 2016 in the heart of Schenkenberg on the site of the former telegraph station, a lasting landmark for the entire town. Indispensable for this were the highly dedicated instigator Wolfgang Groch and a large number of selfless volunteers who lent their hands intensively and donated substantial sums of money.

The Eichberg, which is 95 metres high, joins the nearby Saarmund Berg (97 metres) to form a dune ridge. From its sandy summit, surrounded by fragrant pines, you have a great view over the heathland. Both mountains were formed during the Weichselian Ice Age around 26,000 years ago and are part of the 18-kilometre-long Saarmund terminal moraine arch, a debris deposit from glacier movements.

You can only get to the mountain on foot or by bike. Hiking routes there are signposted from Ferch. The observation tower is open around the clock.
