ビュトゲンバッハのダムは1929年から1932年の間に建設されました。ダムの主な機能は、ヴァルシュ川の流れを調整することです。これにより、ビュトゲンバッハ湖ができました。ここは、美しい人気のハイキングコースの出発点です。例えば、湖の周りを10キロ歩くことができます。

The Urft River, a generally tranquil Eifel river just under 50 kilometers long, flows through the village of Urft, which administratively belongs to the municipality of Kall in the district of Euskirchen. It is not uncommon for a place to derive its name from a body of water; for example, the village of Olef (also in the district of Euskirchen) lies on the banks of the river of the same name. The Olef and Urft rivers meet at Gemünd.

Since the Vennquerbahn cycle path, or RaVell, was once an old railway line, there are still several relics from that era here. Otherwise, it's very well-developed and crosses some great bridges. From Bütgenbach, it's mostly downhill.
