Nice little town with few bike paths. But in the pedestrian zone you can ride a bike (walking speed).

The dominant heart of the village is Neuleinigen Castle. She was in 1240 1250 under Count Friedrich III. completed by Leiningen. It is the earliest fortified castle on German soil and was built on the model of the French castles of the Ile de France. With a large courtyard, surrounded by a ring wall, to which buildings were attached on the inside. Today, the picturesque village and its castle ruins offer a fantastic backdrop for musical and culinary events such as the Castle Wine Festival, the Neuleiningen Castle Summer and the Advent market in the streets.

Very beautiful castle ruins with a beautiful view of the plain. The climb is worth it. The village below the castle is also great.

Only suitable for Burgstall fans. Not easy to climb (without a rope ;-). Consists of the castle hill without remains of walls with a sunken inner surface and ring wall, remains of a corner wall (tower) of a wall can be seen to the south-east. On the mountain side a huge ditch has been deepened... all the treasures that have probably been tumbled in from the castle... Down on the hiking trail the former outer bailey as a plateau with a bench and a view of the town that has meanwhile become very green. Like I said: only for castle fans. ;-)

Kirchheimbolanden also called Kibo is the district town of the Donnersbergkreis. There are ice cream parlors and the Café Enkler, which invites you to linger. Several bike paths lead in different directions here

history Nothing is known about the exact period when the castle was built. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1276 when the complex passed to his daughter Lukardis after the death of Philip V von Bolanden. Thereafter, further mentions were always made in connection with a change of ownership, so the castle came into the possession of King Albrecht von Habsburg between 1304 and 1308 through an exchange for the Gleichen Castle, in 1321 King Friedrich the Handsome locum Wildenstein enfeoffed to Count Philipp von Sponheim- Dannenfels and finally in 1328 she became an afterfief of the Counts of Leiningen. Presumably it was destroyed in the Thirty Years War (1618–1648). In 1657 the castle was already described as a ruin. In 1938 the ruin was owned by the municipality of Albisheim. Excavations took place in 1963, during which crossbow bolts, arrow and spearheads as well as a Romanesque key were found. Today the castle is located in the Dannenfels district. Somehow I wasn't sure where the ruin was - but according to Komoot and the Internet, it is probably the village garden. A more specific billboard would have been nice

Is this really all that's left of the Thannenfels ruins? Then there's not much left!

The remains of the wall are clearly visible, including a part of the castle wall (?) On which you can inspect the ruins. The former well is covered with a grille to be on the safe side and there is a great view from the plateau facing the valley. There is more to see than many other ruins.
