a restorative and refreshing stop

They are by no means mere relics of a bygone era, the "Monumento dei' Caduti" found almost everywhere in villages and towns, commemorating the many victims of war and tyranny. Their design varies, but what they all have in common is that they constantly remind us of the need to preserve peace.

Here are the ruins of Rocca Angitola which was destroyed during the earthquake of 1783. Among the ruins you can see the remains of the city walls, the castle, some churches and the view of Lake Angitola.

The village of Monterosso Calabro is full of ancient buildings and hidden streets. At night, when the town is illuminated, it is described as a nativity scene set in the mountain. Worth visiting are the two museums: "Museum of Rural and Artisan Civilization of Calabria" and the "Multimedia Museum of the Serre".

Monte Coppari is located at 950 meters above sea level and is the highest point of the Kalabria Coast to Coast path. In 2023, many associations and surrounding towns fought and won against the introduction of the wind farm which involved the construction of three 200 meter high wind turbines. Thanks to the battle, Mount Coppari and its beech forest were saved.
