Did take a dip here but the water is nicer at the falls.

Queen Victoria's Picnic Hut that overlooks the Punch Bowl has been beautifully restored and is open to look around during the summer season. Well worth a visit.

Trails and paths connect in this area.

An unobvious fall from the path, looking back as you walk up the path you see it from above.

A good waterfall with a lot of water flowing. From directly on it’s a long view from the path, however you eventually walk up alongside it. The path to it is waymarked from the car park.

There is absolutely nothing at this location, and certainly no bothy, approximately 1mi north from the peak of Derry Cairngorm. The bothy in the photo looks like the Hutchinson Memorial Hut which is about 1mi to the east.

A superb and atmospheric place - plan this in a a coffee or lunch stop!

Some small remote hill lochs and reportedly the spot where an old alder survives in this almost treeless part of the landscape.

A spectacular large, bowl-shaped cavity next to a narrow waterfall, it has been said that the Earls of the nearby lands would place a ceremonial punchbowl on top of the hole and drink from it after successful hunting expeditions?

Rough and beautiful, this vastness is impressive... 😊

Early June 2024 I slept here one night after walking the Derry Cairngorn. My Garmin showed 0 degrees the next morning with a perceived temperature of -7! ;-) The next morning I packed up the tent again to do the Ben Macui. Aka Bridge of Dee. Gives access between the Balmoral and Invercauld Estates across the river Dee and the A93.

Kind of almost mandatory to cross the Quoich Water here using the wooden footbridge. The bridge makes for an excellent viewpoint of this natural feature. There's a new road bridge 300m south.

One of the few ways to cross the River Dee and between the Invercauld Estate and Balmoral Estate.

The large National Trust car park is about 100m away and has toilets and information boards. The car park is free for National Trust members or £4/day (in 2024) for cars. Overnight parking IS allowed - which is a novelty.
