The zoo is also good to visit in warm weather as there are plenty of shady spots. The zoo also has great children's playgrounds... It's worth a visit! ☺️

For many animals, keeping them in a zoo represents a very severe restriction compared to their natural habitats. However, many animal species are unfortunately severely restricted by humans, endangered or threatened with extinction, even in their natural habitats. Both need to improve, and zoos can raise awareness about this. Many children and adults get to know and appreciate wild animals from the region and far away for the first time at the zoo. The Duisburg Zoo takes part in breeding programs for several animal species and thus contributes to the preservation of, for example, koalas, fossas, wombats and colobus monkeys. Immediately in the entrance area of the war cemetery is a sculpture by the expressionist sculptor Wilhelm Lehmbruck.

As of 7/2023, the botanical garden looks poorly maintained. Nevertheless, it is worth visiting it, a beautiful old stock of trees with some exotic specimens and lots of green with nice places to linger.

Well-kept traditional restaurant, family business in the 5th generation. Good home cooking, large beer garden. Great after a visit to the zoo or a walk across the Kaiserberg. We were here in July 2023 and were very satisfied, both with the quality of the food on offer and with the very friendly service. We'd love to come back!
