In the Fontanelle area of the municipality of Predazzo, this lake is located at the confluence of the Avisio and Travignolo rivers and is surrounded by green meadows. The Avìsio is a Trentino torrent, a left tributary of the Adige, and has a length of 89.4 kilometres. The basin covers an area of 940 km² and feeds 4 hydroelectric plants with a total nominal power of 106.18 megawatts.

In 1447, the prince-bishop of Trent Georg Hack granted the residents extensive self-government with the feudal regola.[2] The Regola of Predazzo belongs to the valley community of Fleims. With the dissolution of the prince bishopric, after the Napoleonic era from 1815 to 1919, Predazzo belonged to the Princely County of Tyrol and thus to the Habsburg monarchy. In 1819, the geologist Giuseppe Marzari Pencati made a discovery here that significantly influenced the prevailing understanding of geology at the time, when, contrary to the prevailing theory, he found rock strata lying on top of younger strata.
