Le Trou de la Tine (Trou of the Tine Cave) was formed by erosion on the flank of Mont Salève. It is a deep, sunken hole shaped like an open-topped barrel ("Tine" is an old dialect term for barrel, "trou" means hole). The cave's ceiling has collapsed due to erosion, revealing a natural "barrel" with a side opening. One can walk into the "barrel" through this side opening.

The Crêt de la Neige offers the opportunity to contemplate the Jura massif from the highest point in the surrounding area. You will observe Lake Geneva and the Alps, during a fairly accessible and easy hike. On a clear day, you can see Mont Blanc!

I walked from the centre of Geneva to the start of this tour, about an hour 3.5 miles, but you can catch the No 8 bus from the Centre of Geneva to Veyrier (and more importantly back, as I did at the end of the tour. This way round is the steeper ascent which I personally prefer.
