The National Theatre and Opera House (Romanian: Teatrul Național și Opera Română) on Piața Victoriei houses the Teatrul Național "Mihai Eminescu" and the Opera Națională Română din Timișoara. It has 711 seats and is a landmark of the city. The Palace of Culture uniquely houses four institutions: the Romanian National Opera and spoken theatre in three languages: Romanian, German, and Hungarian. In the right wing of the building, the German State Theatre Timișoara and the Hungarian State Theatre "Csiky Gergely" are located in a 100-seat theatre hall. This is due to the fact that Romanians, Hungarians, Serbs, Germans, Bulgarians, Slovaks, Jews, and Roma have lived and continue to live together in the Banat region. The Dauerbach Palace (Romanian: Palatul Dauerbach), also known as the Palace, is a three-story listed building located on Piața Victoriei in the western Romanian city of Timișoara. The palace was built between 1911 and 1913 as a residence for Georg Dauerbach, designed by László Székely. The Cathedral of the Three Holy Hierarchs (Romanian: Catedrala Ortodoxă or Catedrala Mitropolitană) is a listed Romanian Orthodox church located at No. 1 Bulevardul Regele Ferdinand I in the 1st District of Cetate and is one of its landmarks. It is dedicated to the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory of Nazianzus, and John Chrysostom. It was commissioned by King Michael I and built in the second half of the 1930s according to the plans of architect Ioan Traianescu. Piața Victoriei (Victory Square), also known as Piața Operei (Opera Square), is a square in the present-day city center of Timișoara, a city in western Romania. It is considered the city's most famous promenade. During the Romanian Revolution of 1989, which led to the violent overthrow of the regime under Nicolae Ceaușescu, the present-day Piața Victoriei was a central site of the first mass demonstrations and bloody unrest. Among other things, revolutionaries delivered their speeches from the balcony of the opera house. Even today, bullet holes are still visible in the facades of the buildings to the left and right of this grand promenade. At the southern end of Victory Square, the Monument to the Crucifixion was erected in 1999. It is a stainless steel work by the Romanian-English sculptor Paul Neagu, dedicated to the victims of the 1989 Revolution.

Fun fact: Timisoara's electronic street lighting is the oldest in continental Europe. On November 12, 1884, 731 lamps were put into operation in the city center, illuminating nearly 60 kilometers of streets, which was a European record at the time and second only to New York in the world.

Since the cathedral was built on the alluvial land of the Bega River, it stands on a foundation of oak logs that were hermetically buried in the ground.

Great place to ride close to Timisoara, you have a big lake, a forest with a little uphill, then downhill through a vineyard or you cand gain some more elevation going to one or both of the Bencec's or if you want a longer ride towards Herneacova, Buzad, Nadas. Lovely fields, many birds, pheasants, wild rabbits, clear skies and few to no cars in the area. Since there is alot of offroad, agriculture roads and forest roads, do check the weather so it does not rain a couple of days before, a saddle with gel/foam, a pair of sun glasses, some water, something to eat/chew/snacks/sweets and maybe a helmet and if you plan to return late in the evening definitely lights! ps: charge your phone, oh and there is a spring in Ianova, a shop also and a good place to eat + playground for kids and some animals, called Hanul Zian that just opened in may 2025.
