In 1778, the Karlshalle saltworks and the Theodorshalle saltworks in 1783 were handed over to the electoral general salt tenants Schmalz and Seligmann, who ensured an upswing in salt production until the banks of the Rhine were incorporated into the French state. In 1807 the two salt mines were transferred to a stock corporation, which produced significantly less salt between 1807 and 1815 than would have been possible. Since the salt pans fell to the Grand Duke of Hesse in 1815, the city of Kreuznach, which was in Prussia, now had to pay a high tariff for salt and brine deliveries. In 1817, the health quality and use of brine and mother liquor were officially confirmed by the doctor Dr. Johann E. P. Prieger recognized (Bad Kreuznach district administration 1991, p. 42).

The Rheingrafenstein castle estate was built in the 18th century. For many years it was not open to the public. When the castle was purchased, the furniture was also included.
