An exceptional site due to its location. One thing intrigues me: how did the ancients build with stone at such heights? Even on the backs of mules, the task of climbing the 500m drop from the Tarn is gigantic. Other questions: how did they live there? Certainly no prayers.

A special architectural gem is the Romanesque church of Saint-Sauveur in Liaucous. It once belonged to the Bishop of Rodez. According to tradition, it was originally the chapel of the adjacent Château de Liaucous. Its consecration dates back to 1060. It is one of the Romanesque buildings in the upper Tarn Valley. Over the centuries, the interior has been remodeled several times, including the addition of an impressive gallery. The exterior façade has remained largely unchanged.

This place is charming with your old characters

There are always magnificent viewpoints of the canyon along the way to the hermitage of Saint Michel.

Like a fairytale forest, the path is partly covered in moss on every tree and bush. It's dry, yet the moisture must be retained, as everything is intensely green.

Far away from all civilization, this hermitage was built on rocks.

Only when walking past do you notice the special character of the castle.

The Ermitage Saint-Michel, is in fact an old fortress (fortress of Montorsier) which faces the Causse Méjean from the ledges of the Causse Noir.
