At the castle complex, first mentioned in 1152 and built by the Lords of Summerau, of which remnants of the keep still remain, only a few walls offer a place to rest. A staircase from the inner courtyard leads down to a well-preserved vaulted cellar. The view from the former hilltop castle, which consisted of an outer castle and a 28-meter-long and 14-meter-wide main castle, which was inhabited until its destruction in the Thirty Years' War, has long since been overgrown.

Along with the New Castle, the gatehouse is one of Tettnang's landmarks. On November 19, 1330, Count William II of Montfort was granted permission "to fortify his village of Tettnang, with walls and moat, as a town." The oldest parts of the gatehouse were built with the city fortifications. In 1464, Count Ulrich expanded the city gate by adding a gate tower, which can still be seen today in the inner archway. In 1569, the owner, the county clerk Johannes Leuthold, is said to have "rebuilt" the house. On the upper floors, half-timbered walls separated the individual rooms. The roof structure on the gatehouse and gate tower also dates back to the 16th century. In 1629, the Montfort family repurchased the gatehouse and added the two newer parts facing Montfortstrasse. On the ground floor, the cross vault was removed, most of the window niches were reduced in size, and new sandstone window frames were installed. The corner bay window was rebuilt in brick in the 18th century to replace an older one. Source and more details: https://www.tettnang.de/de/besuchen/sehenswuerdigkeiten/stadtrundgang/torschloss/

The Gate Castle is a Renaissance building on the edge of the old town of Tettnang. The castle-like building ensemble was formerly part of the city fortifications, served at times as the residence of the Counts of Montfort, as a school and today houses the city museum and the city archives as well as the electronics museum. The stepped gables that dominate Bärenplatz and Montfortstrasse make the gate lock particularly representative. Source: Wikipedia
