This was also the case with the Kocherburg, which was first mentioned in 1300 as "castrum Kochenburch". However, it is probably much older. Its name goes back to the Lords of Kochen, who defended the interests of the Ellwangen monastery in the region as servants as early as 1147. In the middle of the 14th century, the military character of the castle was lost. The Kocherburg served the Ellwangen bailiffs primarily as the seat of the administrative district of the same name, "Amt Kochenburg". Hellenstein Castle is a fortress located above the town of Heidenheim an der Brenz. It was originally the ancestral home of the Lords of Hellenstein - later ownership changed. In the late Middle Ages, the complex was under Bavarian control. Since the beginning of the modern era, it has been under Württemberg leadership. From Hellenstein Castle you have a fantastic view of the town of Heidenheim!

Very well preserved castle over Heidenheim. From up here you have a great view over the city, in summer open air events are held in the old ruins, very impressive.

In earlier times the Kocherburg was enthroned above Unterkochen. Today the remains can be found here. There is a small search for the castle's residents for children. There are information material and the note with the characters to be searched for at two stands.

The ruin is being renovated at the moment. But I watched them work there. every stone is rebuilt again by hand. Almost like at the time of construction.
