A great view from the tower. Next door is a small but fine restaurant on weekends.

5月 7, 2023, Monumentberg Observation Tower
Up to one of the youngest observation towers in Upper Lusatia. At 307 m, the Hohe Dubrau is the highest elevation in the Upper Lusatian heath and pond landscape. The cozy Lausitzblick building (now closed) and a 25 m high observation tower were built on the neighboring Monumentberg in 2001. The building is scheduled to open again this year - let's be surprised.

7月 11, 2022, Czorneboh Mountain Inn and Observation Tower
The Czorneboh is one of the highlights in the region. Many visitors flock here especially at the weekend. There are ascents of various difficulties to the summit. I chose the crossing from Hromadnik over the ridge. Adventurous but very cool. There is refreshment in the mountain hut and then you definitely have to go up the tower. The view to the west and north is wonderful. Unfortunately, towards the south and east, the trees are now taller than the tower. Since 1867 there has been a station of the Royal Saxon Triangulation on the tower. The granite pillar in the tower structure is a reminder of this. "The Royal Saxon Triangulation (here with the historical proper name) is a state survey carried out in the years 1862 to 1890 on the territory of the Kingdom of Saxony with the simultaneous creation of a trigonometric network. The aim was to record the national territory scientifically and geodetically and to create the basis for the production of precise maps by establishing permanently marked reference points." - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6niglich-S %C3%axial_triangulation#stations_2nd_order From the station one observed from N.T.R. Nostitzhöhe (in Poland); Strohmberg; Rothstein; Kottmar; Listen; Taubenberg; Valtenberg; butter mountain; salt forest; Grossdubrau

4月 25, 2022, Czorneboh Mountain Inn and Observation Tower
Like all mountain inns, a worthwhile destination. Here you can take a wonderful break both outside and inside. Unfortunately, the guest rooms are no longer available. The observation tower should definitely be climbed. The view extends far over the mountains on one side and far into the flatter north. The actual summit of Czorneboh is a little away from the inn.

Great viewpoint run by a club. To the west of Quitzendorfer See you can see as far as Bautzen Cathedral.

11月 4, 2021, Monumentberg Observation Tower
In 1801, a monument was erected on the summit in memory of Johann Carl Adolf von Nostitz (1743–1800), first lieutenant in the Saxon army from 1774, captain from 1786 and major from 1793. Therefore the mountain was initially called Nostitzhöhe. After the memory of von Nostitz receded, the name Monumentberg became common, which the height bears today. As station No. 2 Nostitzhöhe, Monumentberg was a first-order station in the Royal Saxon triangulation in the 1860s. For this reason, a survey column had been erected on the summit. In 1994 the Nostitz monument was restored by the community and in 2000-2001 a 25 meter high observation tower and a restaurant were built on the summit. Source: Wikipedia

11月 4, 2021, Hochstein Rock Formation
A prehistoric rampart surrounds the cliffs, which are up to 10 m high. In 1841, Karl Benjamin Preusker suspected a pagan sacrificial site in the ramparts. [2] Archaeological investigations around 1900 revealed a Slavic or medieval use. The question of the function of the system could not be clarified. [3] Around 1350, the rocks are said to have served as a hiding place for a band of robbers, which is why the place was also called a robbery castle on old maps and is still called that in Sorbian today. 11月 4, 2021, Teufelsstein Hohe Dubrau
According to legend, one of the devils lived in our area. On the mountain »Hohe Dubrau«, near my village Ober-Prauske, he sat on top of the rock and overlooked the beautiful area. After all, our village is in the beautiful Upper Lusatia and he didn't want to more back to hell. He'd rather be joking around the area. So the devil settled on this rock. On a night outing he tore his pants and had to mend them on the Devil's Stone. So he sat down on the rock and worked with his hellishly hot sewing kit. When he put down the scissors, needle and thimble, the things that can still be seen today were burned into the rock.

The mountain, 9 km southeast of Bautzen, forms the western end of the Czorneboh massif. To the north are the places Rachlau, Döhlen, Pielitz and Großkunitz. To the west lies the village of Cosul, in between the road from Bautzen to Cunewalde leads past the mountain. To the south lies the Cunewald valley with the towns of Schönberg and Frühlingsberg. Sacrificial basin between Hromadnik and Czorneboh The Hromadnik is part of various legends that entwine around the Czorneboh massif. The sacrificial basin between Döhlener Berg and Czorneboh also plays a role here, as it is a typical leaching of granodiorite rock for the area. Another deepening is called the horse bustard. On the summit of the mountain, which is mainly covered with spruce, there are rocky cliffs that are also used for climbing. In the past, rock mining took place in the western foothills in particular, as evidenced by numerous smaller fractures, some of which are filled with water. Because of its location between Cunewalder and the Spreetal, the mountain is rich in precipitation and a source area. The butter water flowing to Cunewalde rises on the mountain. The hiking trail of German Unity runs over the Hromadnik and the Czornebohkette from Görlitz to Aachen. Source: Wikipedia

Around 1850 the idea to build a mountain hut on the Czorneboh arose. The chief forester of the Bautzen city forest, Ernst Robert Walde, resident in the Wuischker Forsthaus, was the initiator of this project. The Bautzen city council approved the project and the Czorneboh-Baude and the oldest stone observation tower in Upper Lusatia were built between 1850 and 1852.

Beautiful observation tower on Monumentberg with a great view over the landscape, from the Quitzdorrf reservoir to the Königshain mountains. Monument to Johann Carl Adolf von Nostitz. Great view over the Quitzendorf reservoir and the Lusatian hills. It's worth it, if only because of the restaurant, which unfortunately will be closed in 2022 because the tenant has retired.
