The former home and business of a wealthy 18th-century linen merchant came into the possession of the manufacturer Gustav Laager in 1905. Victor Laager, his son, donated it to the town of Bischofszell. In addition to the newly designed "Bischofszell Town History in a Nutshell," the museum's focal points include the ceramics collection, the map collection, the drugstore and pharmacy from 1892, as well as toys from the 19th and 20th centuries. The institution is one of the largest regional museums of living history in Eastern Switzerland.
