The kiosk on Quetzin beach is a lovely destination for bathers.

From the southeastern shore of Lake Malchow, there is an impressive view of the former Malchow Monastery, situated on a small hill on the opposite shore. The striking red brick buildings with their tall church towers dominate the town's panorama and, when the water is calm, are atmospherically reflected in the lake. The former Magdalene Convent, later a Cistercian monastery and finally a noble women's convent, is now an important cultural monument. The viewing point on the lakeshore is easily accessible via the cycling and hiking path and invites you to take a short rest with a view of the historic skyline of Old Malchow.

Good for watching ships

The village church in Priborn was built from brick in the neo-Gothic style between 1869 and 1870. It replaced an older building and was designed according to plans by Schwerin's building inspector Theodor Krüger. The rectangular building, with a polygonal chancel and a striking west tower, is richly decorated with decorative friezes and brick blind panels. Inside, there is a simple wooden altar with an altarpiece from 1869, a limestone baptismal font, a carved pulpit, and an organ from 1899. A stained-glass window bearing the coat of arms of Duke Carl from 1591 was retained from the old church. The church was closely associated with the Priborn estate, which at that time was owned by the von Ferber family. Today, the church belongs to the region's Evangelical Lutheran parish and is a listed building.

The surface is good for cycling, but unfortunately, there's no dedicated bike path. You'll be harassed by cars on the narrow road because there's no room to overtake properly. Therefore, the description "nice bike path" is misleading. 😔

The lakeside road at Plötzenhöhe on Lake Plau is a particularly beautiful stretch for cyclists. The path runs along the shore and offers impressive views of the southern part of Lake Plau. From there, you can see far across the water to the wooded shores on the other side. The view is particularly spectacular at sunset – the light reflects off the lake, while the treetops are bathed in warm gold. The path itself is lined with ancient beech and pine trees, and small clearings open up every now and then with views of the shimmering water. A perfect place to stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and enjoy the scenery – whether with a camera or simply with your eyes.

Always worth a visit

Mirow Castle Island is a historic and idyllic destination in the Mecklenburg Lake District. It is home to the magnificent Mirow Castle, which served as the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in the 18th century. Particularly worth seeing are the castle's baroque architecture, the beautiful park, and the impressive Love Island, accessible via a small bridge. Another highlight is the Johanniter Church with its crypt, where members of the ducal family were buried. Its church tower offers impressive views of the surrounding lake landscape. The castle island is an ideal place for strolls, historical explorations, and relaxing hours by the water – a perfect destination for culture and nature lovers.
