In August 2023, a hailstorm destroyed most of the roofs and windows, as well as the exterior. The persistent rain further contributed to the extensive destruction inside. To this day, the basilica and a large portion of the monastery complex are still under scaffolding and under repair. At the same time, older damage caused by structural deficiencies in the basilica is being repaired, and the educational area is being expanded due to increased demand. The basilica can only be entered through the entrance area, as the entire interior of the nave is also under scaffolding.

The Isartor is the eastern city gate of Munich's historic old town. It was built in 1337 and restored in the neo-Gothic style by Friedrich von Gärtner from 1833 to 1835. Bernhard Neher added the wall fresco in 1835. The flanking towers have housed the Valentin Karlstadt Museum since 1959.
