The Iron Trail is a high-altitude trail in the Ore Mountains, whose historical route follows the northern edge of the Ore Mountains. According to local history, it was used as early as the Middle Ages for transporting iron ore from the Schneeberg area. The route, still marked today, runs from Katzenstein near Affalter and through the Streitwald forest to Tabakstanne, continuing through the Bürgerwald forest, past the Schwarzes Kreuz memorial, to Harthauer Berg, located south of Chemnitz on Federal Highway 95. With every step, closer to the summit – the Fichtelberg climb on the Stoneman Miriquidi Road. From the intersection, it's not far anymore, and motivation gets a final boost.

Quote from Freie Presse   The Peace Bell has been ringing every Sunday and public holiday from 4 p.m. on the Fichtelberg at 1,215 meters since May 2010. As a symbol of peace and international understanding, it rings toward Klínovec (Keilberg) on the Czech side (mountain and tower in the background). Gerd Schlesinger, watchman of the town of Schwarzenberg, and Jörg Eller, night watchman of the town of Schwarzenberg, initiated the project as part of the commemoration of the Peaceful Revolution. Thanks to the support of numerous friends of the project, the bell continues to ring today and enjoys numerous visitors.
