Unfortunately, the castle is no longer completely preserved; the citizens used it to build houses.

The experienced French garden architect M. Charbonnier planned and built the palace garden. This anticipated the principles of the large garden he later created in Hannover-Herrenhausen. The expansion of the palace garden and its reconstruction from 1771 in the style of the English landscape garden became a model for the redesign of private gardens of the Osnabrück bourgeoisie. The garden, which like the palace was completely destroyed in the Second World War, was given a new look in the mid-1960s according to plans by Professor Lendholt. The strict Baroque style can be found near the terrace in the form of new square flower beds with six flanking ground-level fountains and two rows of linden trees cut in a box shape. The southern palace garden area was more in the style of an English landscape garden. In 1703, Franz Ostman (* 1645) built the manor house with the two side buildings on Leye. On September 24, 1705, he was awarded the title “von der Leye” as a hereditary title of nobility.

An impressive castle ruin at the gates of Tecklenburg's old town. The trip is definitely worth the effort. A few meters further on there is Paula's organic snack bar right outside the city gate.

Gut Leye is an estate complex with a manor house in the large Leye nature reserve in Atter. It has been owned by the Ostmann von der Leye family since 1860.
