The Lords of Bothmer originally owned a watermill on the right bank of the Leine. Because it obstructed shipping on the Leine, it was demolished in 1822 on the condition that a Dutch windmill be built on the same site. This mill was intended to have two grinding mills, one for barley and one for oil. The mill burned down in 1930 and was rebuilt in 1932. It was severely damaged during World War II. The Bannetze lock is located in Winsen / Aller in the district of Bannetze. More precisely, in the lock canal at km 0.490. The Bannetze lock was built in the course of regulating the Aller from 1909 to 1912. Like the other Aller locks in Oldau, Marklendorf and Hademstorf, which were built in the same way, it has a usable chamber length of 159 m and a usable width of 10 m. 6 m wide and, depending on the water level, max. 2.5 m draft as well as a carrying capacity of up to 650 t. Freight shipping was operated until about 1969. Today the Aller is a popular leisure area that is used by passenger and sport shipping.

A wonderful route for cycling. In addition to the actual forest path, there is a single trail for cyclists, which is great for cycling because the ground is firm and flat. The forest and carriage path itself is not so suitable for cycling, the ground is more uneven there and there are many potholes, but it doesn't matter, there is the great single trail.

A great photo opportunity. There is a hut nearby 🛖, which is a great place to take a break.

a wonderful crossing and a delightful shortcut between Winsen and Wietze. A very easy to drive, unpaved, but paved path - parallel to a sand / carriage track. Why drive on the road if there is this way ?!
