Very nice to look at

The viewpoint has become so overgrown that the view is unfortunately no longer very pleasant. You can still see the town of Reichensachsen and the new motorway bridge, but that's about it. At least there's a nice rest area there, and the wonderful, rustic beech forests are especially worth a visit.

The historic Werra Bridge connects not only the riverbanks but also the city life with the nature surrounding the Werra Valley lake area. From here, you have a magnificent view of the Werra, Eschwege's old town—and, during the Open Flair Festival, often the hustle and bustle of the Werdchen River.

The Bridge of Tears is far more than just a pedestrian bridge over the Werra River – it's a place full of history, emotion, and symbolic significance. The name recalls the time of the inner-German border, when families would say goodbye here – often with tears in their eyes. Today, it's a quiet, powerful place, perfect for a short break, a moment of contemplation, or a photo overlooking the water. Especially during the Open Flair Festival, the bridge is a popular spot for taking a breather – or getting into the festival spirit at sunset. 🌅 Tip: The view from the bridge is especially beautiful in the evening light. And with a bit of luck, you might even hear faint music drifting over from the Werdchen.

The best way to reach this work of art is by mountain bike, as the path up is gravelly.
