The "Alte Schwede" (Old Swede) is the oldest surviving town house in Wismar, built around 1380 on the market square. The name, which refers to the city's Swedish period, was given later, when an inn was established in the building to commemorate Swedish rule from 1648 to 1803. Wikipedia

On the east side of the market square is one of the city's oldest town houses. The brick facade of the house, built around 1380, is one of the most valuable and last late Gothic gabled house facades in the city. The building was only given the popular name “Old Swede”, which is intended to remind us of the Swedish era in Wismar, much later, when an inn under that name moved into the building in the 19th century.
