It was consecrated in 1334 as a church for sailors and fishermen, who still have their Schütting in the Schiffergesellschaft opposite. Its patron is Saint James the Elder. The church, the Holy Spirit Hospital and the neighboring Gertrudenherberge are stations on a branch of the North German Way of St. James. Built at the beginning of the 14th century and consecrated together with St. Marien and St. Petri. Since it was not destroyed in the war, the interior is correspondingly magnificent. The church is connected to the seafarers. I found lifeboat No. 2 of the four-masted barque Pamir particularly impressive. Only six people survived the sinking in two lifeboats. No entry fee, nice reception. Very warm and at the same time magnificent church. Everything true to the original around the 15th century. Memorial chapel for sea rescue, very lovingly made and very informative. The church survived the Second World War unscathed.
