2024: Only a few of the wooden steles in most of the photos are still there and they have been (as seems to be standard in Berlin) defaced as much as possible. Sad.

That's how it is with superlatives. Here the word "natural" is important. Otherwise it's not true. But no matter how high you have to breathe one way or another.

114.5m - the highest natural mountain in Berlin. There is nothing to see there but still worth a tour.

During today's hike I had to realize that all signposts to the summit have been removed and that the cross can only be found using Komoot navigation or older knowledge.

If you want to climb the Top-of-Germany 16-Summits, you cannot avoid the Großer Müggelberg. Ultimately, as part of this challenge, it is important to climb the highest elevation of all 16 federal states and the Müggelberg is the highest natural elevation in Berlin. Logically, high alpine terrain is not to be expected, but you can approach the summit on different paths and from different sides and it can be a bit steeper in the middle of Berlin. The summit itself is located in the middle of the forest and offers no view as the trees around it are too high. But there is a summit cross that shows the correct position. If you are looking for a view, you have to go to and on the nearby, reopened Müggelturm. A worthwhile detour from the summit leads to the foot of the Müggelberg. The path is lined with numerous information boards and when you arrive at the bottom you can visit the Teufelsmoor on safe wooden walkways and keep an eye out for the animals and insects that live there.

Geographic history can be traced 1: 1 here: you can see exactly where the glacial valley runs and where the Barnim hangs. A height difference of around 10 to 15 meters, which is otherwise leveled in the urban area (even if it is still there). A must for Berliners!

Nice and, for Berlin standards, a longer climb. At the top you are rewarded with a lack of view.

It's a shame that you have completely removed the seating (wooden steles) on the way, so that you can now only linger in the roundabout (just before Alba) to enjoy the view. Visited again on 03/28/21. I was pleased to see that instead of the wooden steles, there are new benches (1x one bench / 1x two benches), so that you can linger for a while and enjoy the view of the Elsensee.
