The path to the rock is worth it. Impressive views and wonderful peace. In the past, Skaros had a fortress at the top and served as a watchtower. According to historical data, the fortress was not conquered due to its height and difficult access from the sea. A strong earthquake in the mid-20th century destroyed everything on Skaros and today the only building you can see there is the small church of Theοskеpasti.

During the great earthquake of 1956, the neighboring church of Ágios Georgios was almost completely destroyed. It was rebuilt and completely restored in 1966/67. This was made possible by the generosity of a shipowner, Mr. Loukas Nomikos, which is why a bust of this generous donor was erected in the courtyard of the church.

This Greek Orthodox church is dedicated to the most famous George: the dragon slayer. This church was built in the early 19th century. The church was almost completely destroyed in the great earthquake of 1956. It was rebuilt and completely restored in 1966/67. This was made possible thanks to the generosity of a shipowner, Mr. Loukas Nomikos. There is a bust of this generous donor in the church courtyard.

The beautiful church of Agios Ioannis Theologos, overlooking the Aegean Sea, the volcano and the caldera, was built between 1537 and 1650 and is characterized by its unique architecture. The church's location guarantees stunning views to anyone who visits, and the style of the church, with its crimson details, offers a sight very different from the typical blue-domed ecclesiastical monuments of Santorini.
