7月 6, 2025, Pinnerkreuz Viewpoint
The cross is approximately 18 meters high and consists of a cross spire, a shaft, and a base. High up on the Pinnerberg, which is easily accessible by the Cochem chairlift, stands the Pinner Cross, a vantage point with a magnificent view of the Moselle Valley. The name goes back to a shepherd who tried to save one of his lost animals from falling and lost his life in the process. The cross was erected in his memory. Great view of the castle and Cochem from the bike path. For one of the most beautiful places, but totally overrun by river cruise ships...

There are several ways to get to the Pinner Kreuz. Once from the Endert with the cable car/chair lift. For those who like it more sporty, there is a steep path right next to the cable car, sure-footedness is required, but it is also indescribably beautiful. Another path zigzags up near the train station. Also strenuous, but not as steep as the path next to the cable car and also very scenic with a beautiful view of Cochem. You can drive to the game park in Klotten/Cochem (it's also on the hill) and from there it's about a 20-minute walk to the Pinner Kreuz.

The Reichsburg Cochem was first mentioned in a document in 1130. 1151 it was by King Konrad III. occupied and declared a Reichsburg. In 1688 troops of the French King Louis XIV occupied the castle in the course of the Palatinate War of Succession and destroyed it in 1689. The castle complex remained in ruins for a long time before it was bought in 1868 by the Berlin merchant Louis Fréderic Jacques Ravené for 300 thalers and restored in neo-Gothic style was built. It has been owned by the city of Cochem since 1978.

You have to go up here! There is a completely different perspective on the Reichsburg. Beautiful! And good for your stamina when you climb up here on foot!

Certainly one of the most famous places in Cochem. The wonderfully restored and very well cared for half-timbered houses around the square invite you to linger. The Martinsbrunnen only underlines the homely feeling when you linger there. It is most beautiful there in the evening hours, when it is quiet. The place is very crowded during the day.

The Pinner Cross is at a height of 255 meters, from there you have a wonderful view over Cochem and the Moselle. Easily accessible via a steep but beautiful ascent. You can also go up with the chairlift.

It's great that this castle complex is freely accessible to everyone. We were lucky enough to be here all alone and so you could enjoy this gem, the wonderful view of Cochem and the silence! A very special place!
