The Steinwand in the Rhön Mountains is an offshoot of the Maulkuppe and a very popular climbing crag. Located not far from Poppenhausen and the Wasserkuppe, the Steinwand attracts numerous enthusiastic climbers from near and far to the Rhön Mountains. The Steinwand is a natural climbing paradise and, for many, more attractive than an artificial climbing wall in a climbing hall. The Steinwand rises to a height of 646 meters above sea level at its highest point and is a very steep rock face made of phonolite in the heart of the Rhön Mountains.
