The Große Lache lake in the Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue nature reserve is a true highlight for nature lovers. Located in the heart of Hesse's largest nature reserve, it is especially popular with cyclists and hikers. The landscape is characterized by riparian forests, meadows, and old branches of the Rhine – a paradise for birds, wildlife, and anyone seeking tranquility.

Thanks to the renaturation of the Landbach, you can observe many water birds and nutrias here. Depending on the season and water level, different species can be found here. Storks also breed in the trees here during the summer.

The Erlensee was originally a gravel pit. The gravel and sand extracted from the lake was mainly used for the construction of the motorways. After the end of gravel mining, the Erlensee was renatured. Today the lake is used for fish farming and as a leisure area. The Erlensee was named after the alders that grow on its shore.

Nature reserve, only allowed for pedestrians and cyclists. Known for the many wild garlic (therefore also Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue). Many shady paths. Very quiet.
