An imposing shield wall protected the building from attacks. The castle is now privately owned and cannot be visited. But it is a beautiful complex even from the outside.

Very nice way up to Zavelstein Castle

The courtyard is also not open to the public.

The museum in the old castle offers a permanent exhibition Wed. and Sun. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m The courtyard can be visited at any time.

Great medieval old town with many winding stairs.

The keep offers a beautiful view of the Kleinenztal and behind the castle a small rest area invites you to linger.

Hornbach (who doesn't think of the "Hornberger Shooting"?). Note the geographic location and the protective wall in front of the castle, which "hailed" the trajectory of the projectiles from the mountain to potential attackers :-)
