Beautiful and very large medieval castle ruins – clearly visible from afar as a landmark above the town of Nagold. Accessible via various hiking trails through the forest surrounding the Schlossberg. Great views of the Heckengäu, the Black Forest, and, in good weather, even the Swabian Alb. Served on weekends in the summer. Regular events are also held.

This castle ruin is somewhat hidden away along the roadside, but the detour is worth it.

A little hard to find, and unfortunately a little neglected. Very manageable. But still OK as part of the attraction on the Four Castles Trail.

A nice snack

From the valley, the ruins can be reached via a narrow path (somewhat hidden) in 200 meters. It goes up a grassy path. The tower stump walls are overgrown with grass, moss...

The castle was probably built between 1220 and 1250 by the Kecheler von Rüdenberg family. From 1406 it belonged to Rupert III of the Palatinate, and in 1440 it came into the possession of the Württemberg family. The castle was probably a tower castle, surrounded by a small moat, a rampart on which a wall stood, a ring wall and a moat towards the ridge. The castle site still shows walls of the former keep with remnants of the defensive walls to the north and south. Signs of fire on the still visible beam supports of the tower indicate the destruction of the castle. Source: Wikipedia
